On the 3rd October 19 nervous trekkers arrived at Lake Crackenback Resort to undertake the Aussie 10 Peaks Challenge,
Many of the adventurers on this challenge had never seen snow and never been on an adventure. This adventure is possibly the toughest short adventure in the World and they tackled it head on.
The Aussie 10 Peaks Challenge is to climb the 10 Highest Peaks in Australia in the Kosciuszko National Park.
The 10 Peaks are:
- Mt Kosciuszko 2, 228m
- Mt Townsend 2, 209m
- Mt Twynam 2, 195m
- Rams Head 2, 190m
- ‘Unnamed Peak’ on Etheridge Ridge 2, 180m
- Rams Head North 2, 177m
- Alice Rawson Peak 2, 160m
- Byatts Camp 2, 159m
- Abbott Peak 2, 145m
- Carruthers Peak 2, 145m
The team were led by Glenn Azar – Adventure Director and James Holden – Adventure Leader and ably supported by Tess and Christy from Fighting Fit.
This adventure normally starts from Charlotte’s Pass however on Day One the road to Charlotte’s was closed due to heavy snowfall in the preceding days. Our team took this in their stride and trekked the 8km of mostly uphill, to the start point and then went straight onto the slopes.
Within 300m it was boots off and they dipped their toes into the slightly less than tepid waters of the great Snowy River.
Over the coming three hours they made their way to Mount Twynam where they experienced amazing views of the entire National Park.
Two hours further on and our adventurers were on top of Carruthers Peak. This is where the long first day got serious and they then headed to the back borders of the National Park and made their way for Alice Rawson, Mount Townsend, Abbott Peak and Byatts Camp.
Then came the long run home. Our weary adventurers arrived back at Charlotte’s Pass at 7.30pm in the dark. They were tired (exhausted) but in great spirits. Back to Lake Crackenback for a dinner and then straight to bed.
Day Two:
The second day of trekking started much more civilly as they had a hot breakfast at the resort and then headed to Thredbo to jump on a chair lift to the start point.
Some were still tired, many were sore but they soldiered on.
Some headed straight to Mount Kosciuszko whilst others made their way to Rams Head, Ramshead North, Unnamed Peak on Etheridge and then onto Mount Kosciuszko.
It was an amazing adventure, and amazing group of people and we are very proud of them all. They worked together, they gave 100% and they never complained even though undertaking the one of the toughest short adventures on the planet.
