To give you a taste of the spectacular scenery, great challenge and amazing achievement here is a day-by-day summary of our recent Adventure Professionals trip to climb Mount Kilimanjaro in Tanzania:
Day 1
All of our Kilimanjaro climbers have arrived safely in Africa, and everyone is in good spirits. The group visited the Monduli Masaii Village yesterday and a great time was had by all. The detailed pre-hike briefing is complete so now it’s all systems go to head up the mountain.
Day 2
Everyone in the group is doing really well. They walked up to Forest Camp yesterday, spent a restful evening there, and are setting off for Shira 1 camp today. The group is being accompanied by a really fantastic bunch of porters, and they are singing them into camp each afternoon. So at the end of their day of walking up the mountain they are being serenaded by beautiful African melodies – a fantastically uplifting way to end the day.
Day 3
The group had warm conditions on the climb yesterday, but they all managed the heat really well and enjoyed a restful evening at Shira 1 camp last night. Today is a beautiful clear day so they will be treated to awesome views of Mt Kilimanjaro as they walk up to Shira 2 camp today. It’s only a short walk, so they should be at camp by lunch time, and they will spend the afternoon relaxing and getting used to being at higher altitude.
Day 4
The group arrived at Shira Camp 2 last night in great spirits and have pushed past ahead of schedule heading to Barranco Camp. The weather has been amazing allowing the group to enjoy beautiful sunsets and star filled skies each night.
Day 5
Everyone is in good health as they reached Barranco Camp today (approx 4100m high), the journey from here is steep and slow as there is significant altitude gain ahead, but everyone is acclimatising well and is in great spirits! With beautiful clear days and 50 singing porters, our team will hit the summit of Kilimanjaro in 2 days.
Day 6
The group commenced an acclimatisation walk yesterday, walking from 4100m to 4300m which went well! They then set out for a short 3hour walk allowing them to hit 4600m today & then enjoyed a nice relaxing afternoon as they get ready to reach the summit tomorrow. At 12 midnight Tanzania time, the crew will then set off to reach the summit, taking them approximately 7hours.
Day 7
After setting out at around 11.30pm Africa time our group reached The Summit in time for a stunning sunrise. With 12 porters joining them on the final leg of the journey, they arrived safely. After snapping lots of pictures and taking in the breathtakingly beautiful views their next goal was to aim to reach Mweka Camp by sunset.
Day 8
After taking in the beautiful views at the summit they headed straight back down to camp, trekking 16hours with no problems! Today they planned to walk for 3 hours allowing them to reach Mweka gate. From there they were heading back down to Lake Duluti where cold beers and warm showers were awaiting!
