What do I love about Adventure? I think it’s the disconnect from the day to day life that we get tied up in.
It’s a chance to take a step back. Your mind becomes clearer; problems you thought were big are really just minor. But often we don’t take the time away to step back and really think things through. This results in things becoming harder to clear and therefore making them seem insurmountable.
Put in perspective our problems are often nothing and require little more than some clear thought.
When in Kathmandu with Alyssa we saw a kid about 10 years old with no legs from just above the knees. He was dirty and wore no protection on his stumps. He was crawling along the busy dirty streets of Kathmandu asking people for food or money. It was pretty tough to see to be honest. Many just ignored him. People have this attitude that beggars are all out to con you or are spending money on drugs. This kid had no bloody legs. What would you do in that situation in a Third World country?
You still want to complain to me about how tough your life is? Hard big your problems are? I dare you.
There’s so much out in the World that reminds us just how easy life is in Australia – and I love our country for that but I also respect that there are some people doing it tough out there in a way the we will never comprehend.
So why do I love Adventure? Well because it gives me clarity. It gives me a chance to see the World for what it is and not through the glasses of the First World only. It makes me respect what I have in life and not complain about what I do not.
It gives me motivation to do more. Motivation to be more. Why? Because so many people in this World will never have the opportunities that I have. I have no right to complain. In fact it’s downright offensive to those who less and still carry on fighting out a living, a survival.
Adventure gives me moments of inspiration that help to make me who I am and make me do things differently to everyone else. It’s why Fighting Fit Australia has been so successful, because I have learnt to never give up even if we do things differently to other gyms.
It’s why Adventure Professionals is such a great business – because it gives myself and many others the chance to experience this World for what it is and not just how we think it should be.
My newest inspiration is how to change the World and the people in it from a grass roots level. I want to inspire our next generation to excel beyond their parents, their teachers, and even their own expectations. I want to make them fitter and stronger both mentally and physically – and I want them to be global thinkers for this World is no longer confined to our own little backyard.
That’s why I love Adventure.
