Everest Base Camp

Trip Overview

Trekking into Everest Base Camp you will be confronted by the sheer beauty of the Himalayan Mountain Ranges not to mention the hospitality of the local Nepalese people along the trail.

For this adventure you get to trek with our team and hear what it takes to summit Mount Everest and surrounding mountains from our first hand experience of training and mentoring climbers to summit mountains like Everest, Ama Dablam, Manaslu and the like.

Get to meet the local community that we work with and are happy to call our friends after many years of trekking through Nepal and working to assist local communities along the way. We believe in adventure with soul, helping those who show us such warm welcome.

Trek Itinerary

Today you will meet our team in Kathmandu where we will get settled into our accommodation and have a briefing for the trek ahead. This is also a good chance to go shopping locally for any of the gear you might need. There are heaps of clothing and equipment shops with high quality gear for a very good price.

Today we head to the airport and fly to Lukla (2,860m). We will meet our local guides here and then trek for approx. 3.5 hours to Phakding (2,610m) where we will stay for the night.

We make our way up above 3,000m today as we follow a scenic walk along the Dhota Khutse crossing it numerous times on suspension bridges before finishing the day with a long climb up into the largest village along the trail Namche Bazaar (3,440m).

Today we will spend the day acclimatising to the altitude by staying in Namche Bazaar for a second night. We will head to the village of Khumjung (3,780 m) to assist with our acclimatisation. We will visit Sir Edmund Hillary School and also visit the Ancient Yeti’s Head which is a mystical figure here.

The acclimatisation days we put into this adventure are very important to assure the best chance of success in the coming days of the climb.

The data: 10km – 5 hours

Today is another big climb as we head to the World’s Highest Buddhist Monastery at Tengboche (3,860m). The morning starts with us skirting down and around the mountain side where we will get some great views of Mount Everest itself.

We then commence the climb up after lunch. An exhausting 2-3 hours later we will arrive at Tengboche where we will spend the night.

The data: 11km – 6 hours

Today we climb a little higher as we cross the 4,000m mark for the first time on the trek. We follow a scenic river route and make our way to the small village of Dingboche (4,400m).

The effects of altitude will really start to be felt by the time and everyone will be ready for an early night. You will find we move slower and get tired more easily up here due to the lack of oxygen as we trek.

The data: 11km – 5 hours

Today is our second schedule acclimatisation day on the trek, You will have the option of either relaxing at Dingboche for the day or going on a day trek for approx.. four hours and reach 5,000m above sea level before returning to camp. This is a good way to get your body acclimatised for the coming days.

Today we make our way upwards from Dingboche and after approx. one hour arrive on the top of a ridge line which gives us our most amazing views yet. We are surrounded by 360 degree views of mountains ranging from 6,000m to 8,000m.

We will then trek through a valley before making our way upwards again to another ridgeline which is a spiritual memorial to all of the people that have perished trying to summit Mount Everest over the years, both Sherpa’s and Foreign climbers alike.

We end our day at Lobuche (4,910m).

The data: 9km – 4.5 hours

Today we wind our way through the base of the Khumbu Glacier and make our way towards Gorak Shep (5,410m) which is the last village before Everest base Camp.

Providing everyone is feeling ok we will head to the top of Kala Pattar (5,550m) which is a feature overlooking Gorak Shep. It provides stunning views of Mount Everest a chance to acclimatise prior to our trek to Everest Base Camp tomorrow.

The data: 11km – 5.5 hours

Today is the day. We trek into Everest Base Camp (5,350m) which is approx. 5 hours return from Gorak Shep. Once we return to Gorak Shep we will commence our trek down in altitude for the first time on this trek.

We will pass Lobuche and trek into the village of Pheriche (4,380m) where we can get a warm shower and very nice accommodation to relax for a well deserved sleep.

The data: 12km – 4.5 hours

Today we continue our trek down the mountain as we make our way all the way back to Tengboche. As we move down in altitude everyone starts to feel a lot better and move a little faster.

Today we head back to our favourite village of Namche Bazaar. Nice café’s where we can sip lattes or hot chocolates with the famous Namche Brownies. We’re reaping the rewards of our successful trek and feeling great as we continually gain more oxygen as we descend.

A short day today as we make our way to Phakding where we stayed in the first part of the trip. A chance to relax and get ready for our final trek tomorrow to Lukla.

Today we make our way to Lukla where we will spend the night before flying out to Kathmandu in the morning.

Today we fly to Kathmandu. This can be a real test of patience as weather can play havoc with the flights in and out. Patience is the key here as we wait around for our chance to fly back to Kathmandu.

Today we will go on a tour of some significant sights around Kathmandu and Bhaktapur. A chance to sign off this great trip with a Nepalese Cultural Dinner before we head home tomorrow.

The program ends. Our trek team will fly back to Australia. We advise getting a late flight out just in case we experience any delays in the previous few days getting out of Lukla.
